House Select Committee on Assassinations: overview and significance

What happened?

The U.S. House Select Committee on Assassinations re-examined the Kennedy assassination during the 1970s, reviewing forensic evidence, intelligence information, witness testimony and the performance of earlier investigations.

Why was it important?

The committee agreed that Oswald fired shots at Kennedy but concluded that the assassination was probably the result of a conspiracy, a finding strongly influenced by acoustic evidence that later became disputed.
